Reproduction of roses and hydrangea from branches

 Good afternoon,

Many of of us love colorfull roses and hydrangea flowers. They are blooming almost for six months also have resistance to the cold. (Here, at Zagorak we had minus 16 last year).

Sometimes we also have to to calculate the cost. So, let's reproduce your own roses and hydrangea.

Mostly within January is a good timing to trim roses. Even you can make it staring from October. The right timing for hydrangea flowers is around February. Such a pity; mostly people put them into the bin. When they put next to the bin and I see; take them immediately.

When you trim your roses and/or hydrangea flowers (or even find like me); just choose the pencil thickness ones to reproduce new ones. Thicker ones still can be used but process will be slower then thinner ones.

Strictly advise to seal the top of the branches before plant them. This will create a protection against to losing water and entry of uninvited guests such as;

These worms will eat the middle of the branches until the end cause dead of them. To seal the top; there are some chemicals with different names. You can buy and use of them or can do as I did; warm the candle and crush an antibiotic inside. If you do not have antibiotics; even you can use cinnamon powder as fungicide.

Usually people thinks that when the branches have new leafs mean OK. Definitely not. When new branches has roots seem as on the left side pot that means you have a new one. The roots will be quite fragile at the beg therefore better to wait a bit until you see many roots or even the roots are thick enough.

Another tips about these two plants; hydrangea does not like too much sunshine hence better to plant on semi shadow areas.

And with roses; when the flower is gone; cut the branch between three and five leaf;

The leaf on my hand three pieces, the next one has five pieces. When the flower is over, I will cut this branch just on upper part of the five pieces leaf. Somehow the plant thinks as continue to produce new flowers.

I learnt this tip from one of my neighbour and tried immediately; yes it works. Last year had app 10 roses in total and this year have no single idea how many do I have.
