Japanske jabuka / Persimmon

Good morning,

You can see persimmon trees all around Montenegro. On the rural part of the country a bit more. They are quite often like kiwi trees.

This delicious and very healthy food is named "Japanske jabuka", which means "Japanese apple". For me, that is such a good description; I love to eat it with bites;

Montenegrins are waiting until the fruit is ripe and soft enough to eat with a spoon.

Even the birds are taking their shares from trees with bites; share with is such a good feeling 🤗

As wrote above; they consume persimmons when they are ripe with a spoon. For me; there are plenty different ways to consume all year.

Peel the fruit, tight them to a rope, put inside of the boiling water for 3-5 seconds and then hang.

The best way is to dry with wind outside. Day by day the fruit is losing the water but keeps the taste inside.

Thank to on going rains I found this solution. Do not heat them suddenly/so much unless if you do not want to have dry wood. Has to be slowly.

More less in 30-40 days (depends on progress and environment of drying) the fruit gets dry completely. This white powder is own sugar of persimmons; 100% organic. After this process, you can store it in a cold and dark place as long as you want. Better to keep close to steam before eat it. With this way gets softer.

I also make marmalade, dry fruit and dried fruit pulp with persimmons. Neighbours, who has plenty but do not eat them all bring to me and I prepare for me and for them; even gifts to the friends with persimmons.

If you have persimmons on yourself garden; can dry whole fruit, or slice and dry inside of the oven (wood stove oven is the best for me), or wait and make marmalade or dried fruit pulp on second half of December if you want to eat whole year.

Enjoy with your kitchen
With love,
